Tomatoes are my favorite as well! So many memories of working in my family’s garden in the summer, eating cherry tomatoes off the vine (is there no greater pleasure than this?), and then my mom making quarts and quarts of canned tomatoes. Summer is not summer without a tomato sandwich, on good country white bread, sat and pepper, and proper mayo (as a good southern lady, it’s Duke’s, obviously). Thank you for this ode to the best vegetable fruit we’ve been blessed with! 🍅
On the fruit vs vegetable legality - a few years ago nyc public schools officially declared tomato a vegetable so that school lunch pizza would be classified as a serving of vegetables
