Less than a month until The Condiment Book comes out! The response has truly been so wonderful, I feel so lucky to have each and every one of you by my side during this period. Keep your eyes peeled, I’ve got some exciting collaborations coming your way!
Why preorder? Well firstly, it’s the cheapest the book will cost! Secondly, you can preorder the UK version all over the world (Blackwells ships internationally for free). If you’re in South Africa, you can order via Takealot here. Lastly, it really does help determine the success of the book so I would be very grateful if you did!
Now onto some jam recipes…
Blackberry Jam 3 Ways
Although jam can, and should, be easy, sometimes foraging for the fruit itself is not. Blackberry jam is one of those cases. It is, however, one hundred percent worth the effort.
Since I was little, my parents and I have foraged for and harvested these thorny berries. Whether at the mill, at a family member’s pond or in a friend’s field, August has always been our prime picking family time. We spend the past weekend picking nearly 10kg of blackberries… my arms are still from the stinking nettles, fingers still tender typing this due to the mini thorns but the jam pots have been made, tasted, and most importantly enjoyed. If you buy your blackberries at the store, congratulations my thorn-filled fingers are jealous!

Blackberries are sweet, juicy, earthy with a slight tart aftertaste. They can overpower lots of flavors but when paired correctly, lend to a scintillating mouthfeel in every corner of your mouth and a lingering, sweet and rich aftertaste. Blackberry jam is wonderful on its own but I also really enjoy two different ways: bright and acidic or fresh.
The Recipes x3
Bright and acidic - Blackberry Lime Jam
Fresh - Lemon Balm Jam
Classic
All of the recipes below make 2 jars but feel free to double, triple, quadruple the recipe! The ratio will stay the same.
Blackberry Lime Jam
Every year, I make variations of a similar jam. This is year, this acidic, limey jam is my personal favorite of the blackberry trio. Don’t get me wrong, they’re all delicious, but this one reminds me of a tangy cocktail on the beach and screams SUMMER.
