My Condiments Essentials
September Reset
IT’S BACK TO SCHOOL SEASON BABY! It’s officially September which in my opinion feels more like a “new year” than January 1st. After non-stop travel this summer, I’m finally back in London and have spent the past week stocking my fridge and pantry with my essentials
.
Some of these are store-bought, some are homemade but all of them allow me to have fun in my kitchen!
My Condiment Essentials
Dijon: both smooth and grainy
Butter: regular butter and condiment butter ie big salt crystals, usually homemade
Salt: fleur de sel, gros sel, Anglesey salt
Soy Sauce
Ponzu: ideally yuzu ponzu
Tonka Bean: love my microplane grinder so much
A homemade jam: right now I have a peach tomato jam
Chutney: Mrs H Balls Chutney forever but also currently back in my tomato chutney era because I MUST enjoy all of the tomatoes before summer is over
Salty Vanilla Syrup: necessary for morning bevs
Candied jalapeños: obviooooously but notable mention to candied olives because these are another dinner party surprise people love
Something pickled: homemade pickled watermelon rind & pickled red onions (recipe in TCB) currently in my fridge.
OOOOOH I should really stock up on this radish relish before summer is over thank you for reminding me Mr Newsletter.
Fresh herbs: do not forget about these! Every time I go to the grocery store I pick up 2+ bunches of fresh herbs as these inform what I cook the upcoming week.
ACV: I love making quick pickles with ACV but also love adding it to salad dressing, tuna salad, and daily drinks…
Balsamic Vinegar: considering it’s still summer and the tomatoes are juicy and sweet, I can’t not include this in my top picks!
A natural sweetener: in the US I would’ve said maple syrup but it’s just too expensive in the UK for the quality you get so here I’ve been really enjoying beautiful honeys instead
Parmesan: my daily dessert/non stop snack is usually parmesan and a homemade jam so this is a must in my fridge
Anchovies: necessary for so many reasons, on bread + butter, caesar dressing, pasta sauce etc.
Something spicy: my hot sauce preferences vary depending on season but I do love a green Tabasco, St Augustine Zabs, Cholula, Tingly Teds extra spicy & Valentina. If it weren’t for the price, I’d always have chunky salsa verde in my fridge as well as a yuzu kosho
Vanilla beans: true luxury
I know for a fact I’m missing some necessities but I’ll be sure to keep this list updated for you all in case you’re in need of fridge & pantry condiment inspiration.
